Bird and Pollinator Habitat

This habitat forms the central part of the garden. It is a spectacularly beautiful place that envelopes you with the colors, sounds, and fragrances of nature. See how a small pond attracts more life to the garden, notice the hedge of shrubs providing shelter to birds and observe native bees using nesting boxes. This densely planted area is where a  multitude of bees, butterflies, moths, and birds find a home.

Fruit and Vegetable Growing

Growing and sharing food creates community. The vegetable garden is full of surprises - cantaloupes can be grown in Maine! New flavors - Malabar spinach, Mexican Sour Gherkins, Midnight Roma Tomatoes. And new techniques - trellises for tomatoes, insect netting. The harvests from the raised beds provide samples to curious visitors while the bulk of the harvests go to local food pantries.

The Anna & Oliver Basecamp

Vine-covered archways, whimsical art, strange plants to touch and smell, and puzzles and games that lead you to explore the garden are all part of the Basecamp experience. This inviting, colorful, unique space reminds us that exploration, discovery, storytelling, and a bit of magic are all part of the gardening experience. Time spent here will reclaim your sense of wonder.

Places To Be Immersed In Nature

Walking the paths in the garden feels as though you have entered a natural, unmanaged space. Plants of every color, texture, and height envelop you while the buzzing and chirping of bees and birds soothes your soul. Chairs and benches scattered throughout the garden invite you to pause and reflect while daily worries drain away.

"The garden suggests there might be a place where we can meet nature halfway."

-Michael Pollan
