Backcountry Skiing
The Black & White Glades are a testament to partnerships and collaboration. Over the course of five years, Mahoosuc Land Trust, Granite Backcountry Alliance Alliance, and Black Mountain of Maine planned, created, and continue to maintain these trails.
MLT’s 751-acre Rumford Whitecap Mountain Preserve and adjacent private lands are a perfect location for outstanding glade skiing. The trails cover three distinct backcountry zones, and Rumford Whitecap Mountain (elevation 2,214') provides awe-inspiring 360-degree views, natural snowfields, and access to Black Mountain of Maine Ski Area.
A partnership between Black Mountain of Maine amd Granite Backcountry Alliance provides access to our glades. Black Mountain of Maine ticket holders can skin an uphill only trail to access the Black and White glades from Black Mountain. Please note that Black Mountain of Maine has an uphill policy that you must abide by if you start from the ski area.
