What does Mahoosuc mean? 

The word refers to the Mahoosuc Range, the northern extension of the White Mountains, that straddles the border between New Hampshire and Maine.

 

What is a Land Trust?

A conservation land trust is a private, nonprofit organization in the U.S. that acquires land or conservation easements for the purpose of preserving open space, natural areas, waterways, and/or productive farms and forests.

Are all of your properties open to the public?

The properties owned by MLT are all open to the public. This includes Step Falls, Rumford Whitecap, Shelburne Riverlands, McCoy-Chapman Forest, Valentine Farm, Intervale Gateway, and Glassface.  (Explore a full list here.) Properties "held" by MLT that are privately owned are not open. Access may be provided with landowner permission. 

What is MLT’s service area?

We cover western Oxford County, Maine, and eastern Coos County, New Hampshire. The towns include Shelburne, NH, and Mason Township, Gilead, Albany Township, Bethel, Newry, Rumford, Hartford, Woodstock, Greenwood, Locke Mills, and Bryant Pond in Maine.
