BACKYARD SUNDAYS AT THE GARDEN

Habitat For All Garden
Valentine Farm, 162 North Road, Bethel
On Sundays in July and August, bring a picnic lunch and head over to the Habitat For All Garden, and learn about what's new at the garden, play in the mud kitchen, contribute to an art project or take part in one of the special activities of the day.
July 7 - Hide a Butterfly, with Mary Smith. Discover how butterflies use their colors to protect themselves in the garden. Ages 4-9.
July 14 - Making & Tasting Herbal Ice Cream with John Reilly. Bee Balm, Lemon Thyme, Chocolate Mint, and Spruce tip ice creams will be made. Taste and vote on your favorite.
July 21 - Making Fresh Salsa with Linda Ray. Salsa is always a welcome treat, especially when it is made with fresh vegetables and herbs on hand in the summer garden. Its quick, easy, versatile to make.
Vegetable Tops and Bottoms with Mary Smith. Sort veggies by what grows above and under ground. Listen to a book and see if you guessed right!
July 28 - Making Herbal Teas with April Frost. See, smell and taste a variety of herbs, and learn how to grow and use them to create your own unique blends of delicious herbal teas.
August 4 - Who are our pollinators? Learn about the insects and plant relationships in the garden. Seek and iNaturalist apps will be demonstrated with Julie Reiff and Sue Lowe.
August 11 - Build a Geodome Fort with Ann Speth. A geodome is made out of triangles built from wood that are lashed together with rope. It is strong and sturdy enough to climb on. This activity is appropriate for ages 12 to adult. Adult assistance appreciated especially if younger kids want to work on this project. No experience or knowledge needed just patience, some strength and the ability to follow directions.
August 18 - Habitat For All Monarch Festival An afternoon of fun for the whole family. FMI mahoosuc.org/monarch-festival
August 25 - Working with Clay with Martha Siegel. Make a leaf or flower imprint to decorate at home.
Build a Bird House with the Congo Craftsmen. Assemble a nesting box for backyard birds to use next spring. Limit 20 participants.
