Rumford Whitecap

Meet at the trail head parking area on the East Andover Road, Rumford. (Approximately 1/4 mile after turning from Andover Road to East Andover Road). Dan Elliott and Jon Starr will lead the intermediate hike to the summit that offers a 360 degree view. Approximately 3 hours round trip. Could be some blueberries along the way.

Conservation Project Wednesday, August 4, 2010 - 9 AM

Puzzle Mountain

Meet in the parking lot for the Grafton Loop Trail, approximately 4.5 miles up Route 26 from Route 2. Advanced intermediate hike to the summit of Puzzle Mountain, 2400 feet of elevation gain, about 2-1/2 hours up; at 1-1/2 hours up is a beautiful set of ledges that could be your destination as well. Bob Stewart will lead the hike.

Conservation Project Saturday, September 18, 2010 - 10 AM

First Mountain

Meet at First Mountain, North Road, Shelburne, NH. Hike will be a 5 mile loop over the top of First Mountain and Middle Mountain to see the spectacular views of the Presidentials and Mahoosuc Mountains. Moderate hike with 1000' of elevation the first mile with some short steep sections. Ginger Lawson and Larry Ely will lead the hike.

Bald Pate and Old Speck

Meet at 9AM at the parking lot across the road from Bear River Trading Post at the junction of Routes 26 and 2 in Newry. 25 minute drive and 3 hours of walking time. If you want to just hike Bald Pate, about 90 minutes of walking. 123 rating: one remote pond, two above-treeline peaks, traversing three townships. Includes views of the newly acquired 4000 acre Concord River Easement. Moderate hike with some short steep sections, a section of trail shared by a small stream as well as the usual rocks and roots of a backcountry hiking trail.

Exhibit of Antique maps, globes, and early surveying equipment.  10AM – 5PM. 

Gallery talk and walk around at 1:15PM.

Early Mapping of Maine and New England with Barry Allen, Surveyor, Main-Land Development

Contributors to the exhibit include the Maine Historical Society, Andover Historical Society and local citizen’s collections.
